“Edward Dowd pointed at something that barely made headlines but might be the most important monetary shift in decades: "The US made gold money last year. They made it a tier one asset class. It used to be tier three. When you make it tier one, that means you can create money from that reserve. Gold is money again." Sit with that. For fifty years gold was the barbarous relic on bank balance sheets. Now banks can create money against it again, and behave accordingly: "Central banks are accumulating gold... commercial banks are acquiring gold." How do we know that? Central banks are accumulating." His number: "Gold, we think, goes to 10,000 by 2030." The current sideways action doesn't bother him, a year of consolidation after a parabolic run is, in his words, healthy. But the part most people will scroll past is his most contrarian position: cash. "People don't like cash, but it's a great position in a risk selloff scenario. Warren Buffett's got 40% cash. He's waiting for the fat pitch." He remembers 2007: "People said cash is trash. Inflation was raging, right until it wasn't." His models see inflation rolling over, a disinflationary scare, and only then the redeploy into risk. Bitcoin included: "Bitcoin will be great on the other side of this." The whole framework in one line: hold what is no one's liability, hold what buys the bottom, and be patient enough to use both. @DowdEdward”
